The Farm to School Initiative had the privilege of participating in Youth CAN’s 5th Annual Climate Change Action Summit at MIT. The event brought together students from across New England for a series of workshops, lectures, and discovery. Kim and I led a workshop on the History of School Food for roughly 20 students in which we explored the links between agriculture, pop-food culture, and school food. Other highlights of the Summit included a keynote speech by Colin Beavan – the sustainability activist and author also known as “No Impact Man” – and a variety of informational booths from green organizations across Boston and New England. One of the crowd favorites was a booth set-up by Bikes Not Bombs featuring a pedal-powered blender (at left) that churned out smoothies for attendees.
